Quick Tips To Feel Comfortable Making Virtual Presentations In English.

We know virtual presentations and meetings in English are difficult as many clients (companies and professionals) tell us.

Here are some typical problems;

  • feeling uncomfortable when presenting
  • a lack of confidence when communicating clear messages in English
  • poor connections and technology problems
  • poor structure
  • people speaking too fast
  • difficult to read body language
  • some speakers dominating the meetings and the Q&A section (questions and answers section).

Typically our clients (companies and professionals) use one of Webex, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, BlueJeans and GoToMeeting.

From our Business English training here are 7 quick tips that have helped lots of professionals to feel more comfortable and confident.

Quick Tips To Feel Comfortable Making Virtual Presentations In English.

1) Audience – reflect and think about your audience’s main problems. What do they need from your presentation?

2) ‘Best thinking’ – do your ‘best thinking’ for ideas in your own language then translate key ideas into English.

3) Know your content – read out loud your content a few times until you own it and it feels natural to you.

4) Practice, practice and practice – confidence comes from practising a lot and getting feedback. Video record yourself several times to see yourself presenting in English. Ask friends and colleagues for feedback on your communication skills in English.

5) Anticipate – anticipate your audience’s main questions and objections. Write answers to these and practice saying them.

6) Mind mapping – use visual mind maps to organise and structure your presentation ideas, content and also the Q&A.

7) Pauses – use pauses after key points to emphasise and focus your audience’s attention on these key points.
