We can all feel nervous or have fears about presenting and public speaking in our own language and in another language like English. I still get a nervous when presenting in Spanish.

 Here are quick techniques and tips that we use in our training to help professionals and managers increase their speaking confidence in English and presenting in English confidence.

 Use pauses (2 seconds) for impact after or before you say a key point or idea. I prefer use pauses after a key point.
 Remember to take good deep breaths and practice speaking at a good speed (audio record yourself speaking aloud), neither too fast or too slow. TED speakers recommend 130-150 words per minute.
 Know your audience – what they need and want, use language that works for them if they are a technical audience or a decision-making audience (managers and directors).
 Make an impression that people will remember – focus on creating a beginning/opening with impact, then introduce your topic and yourself and finish with an ending with impact.
