Stop translating in your head and start thinking in English – Part II

Stop translating in your head and start thinking in English (part II). Watch our 3 minute video explanation.

We know it’s easier said than done to start thinking in English. However the key is to start to do more and more things in English.

And we need to be realistic with our focus and centre our efforts on two key ideas, ‘thinking more in English’ as well as ‘doing more in English’.

(*when we say stop translating in your head what we really mean is to really reduce the number of times you do direct translation or literal translation , which is to translate word-for-word).

Here are some quick and simple techniques to stop translating in your head and start thinking more in English.  And let us know which technique is your favourite and why info@englishtco.com.

✅ Listen to podcasts, to internet radio and music all in English (e.g. listen to English both actively and in the background to train your ear)

✅ Guess and predict what people will say next in a meeting in English (e.g. what area will they talk about? What phrases will they use? What questions will they ask?)

✅ Create your ideal day etc. (e.g. create and describe in detail your ideal day / holiday/ house/ job/ company)

✅ Have and write a daily mantra in English (e.g. I’m getting better in English one day at a time)
